
Syracuse’s Baumgartner Receives 'Game Changer' Award

SU Athletics administrator honored by Sports Business Journal.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Syracuse University Deputy Athletic Director and Chief of Staff Dr. Renee Baumgartner is the recipient of a 2014 "Game Changers" award, given annually by Sports Business Journal to women who are leaders and agents for change in the sports business Industry. Dr. Baumgartner accepted the award at a ceremony in New York City on September 16 for her efforts in leadership, creating new athletic opportunities for young women and being a pioneer on the collegiate sports landscape.
Dr. Baumgartner has excelled at virtually all levels of collegiate athletics; as a student-athlete on the golf team at USC, the head golf coach at USC and Oregon, where she started the program from scratch. She is now the Deputy Athletic Director – Chief of Staff at Syracuse University.
Dr. Baumgartner has also led the charge in creating the first new sport at the intercollegiate level in decades by recognizing the interests and abilities of hundreds of thousands of young women around the country with the sport of Acrobatics and Tumbling. She serves as the President of The National Collegiate Acrobatics and Tumbling Association (NCATA) which governs 10 collegiate Acrobatics and Tumbling teams.
At Syracuse, Dr. Baumgartner is involved in the day-to-day operations of the department as the Chief of Staff and oversees the external functions of the department, working daily on scheduling, marketing, tickets and fundraising among other revenue generating functions. She is also actively involved in representing Syracuse Athletics' interests at the ACC and NCAA level.
