Hunt ranks 10th in program history with 2,621 passing yards
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse University quarterback Terrel Hunt has been denied an extension of eligibility waiver by the NCAA that would have allowed him to continue his college career. The University filed the waiver on Hunt's behalf seeking a sixth year of eligibility after his 2014 and 2015 seasons were cut short by injury.
Â
Hunt broke his leg against Louisville in 2014 and missed the final seven games of the season. He returned to the field for the 2015 opener versus Rhode Island, but was sidelined again for the rest of the year after suffering an Achilles tendon injury midway through the first quarter.
"Obviously, it's very disappointing but I want to thank my teammates, coaches and all the Syracuse fans who have supported me through this process and during my time here," Hunt said. "Even though my career didn't turn how I thought it would, I still have a lot of great memories that I'll take with me for the rest of my life.
"Right now I'm focused on my rehab and on finishing graduate school. I'm getting better every day and hopefully I'll have the opportunity to continue my career at the professional level."
Â
Hunt played in 19 career games for the Orange and ranks 10th in team history with 2,621 passing yards. He accounted for 24 career touchdowns (11 passing, 13 rushing) and shares the Syracuse single-game record for the most rushing yards by a quarterback with 156 versus Maryland in 2014.
Â
In 2013, Hunt led the Orange to a 7-6 record and a 21-17 victory over Minnesota in the Texas Bowl. He threw for 1,638 yards and 10 touchdowns on the season. He also added 500 yards rushing and seven more scores. Against the Gophers, Hunt passed 188 yards and scored two rushing touchdowns to earn Texas Bowl MVP honors.Â
Hunt is one of 23 individuals (17 players, 6 managers) who will be recognized at the Carrier Dome as part of Senior Day on Saturday, Nov. 28 against Boston College. Fans are encouraged to be in their seats 30 minutes before kickoff to help recognize the 2015 senior class and their contributions to the program. It's also First Responders' Day, honoring local emergency service personnel.
Tickets are available online, by phone (1-888-DOMETIX) and at the Carrier Dome Box Office (Gate B). In addition, discounted group tickets (20 or more) can be purchased by calling 315-443-3212.
