
Franklin and Fenne Named Scholar-Athletes of the Week

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Zaire Franklin of the football team and Alma Fenne of the field hockey team are this week's Orange Scholar-Athletes of the Week.

Franklin is a sophomore general management studies major in the Martin J. Whitman School of Management. The linebacker was elected team captain at the beginning of the season, marking the fourth time a sophomore was named a captain in Syracuse University football history. He currently leads the Orange defense in tackles with 58 so far on the 2015 season. The Philadelphia, Pa. native was a 2014 All-ACC Academic Team selection and was also a member of the 2014 ACC Honor Roll.

Fenne is a graduate student pursuing a master's degree in Media & Education. The ACC Offensive Player of the Year netted her 14th goal of the season in No. 1 Syracuse's 3-2 victory over No. 5 Virginia in the ACC Semifinals this past weekend. The Amsterdam, Netherlands native currently ranks third in the ACC in goals per game (0.78) and is a two-time ACC Offensive Player of the Week (10/13, 10/21).

Franklin and the football team face No. 1 Clemson this Saturday, Nov. 14 at 3:30 p.m. in the Carrier Dome. Tickets for the Clemson game are available online, by phone (1-888-DOMETIX) and at the Carrier Dome Box Office (Gate B). In addition, discounted group tickets (20 or more) can be purchased by calling 315-443-3212.

Fenne and the field hockey team are the top seed in the NCAA Tournament, hosting the first round game on Saturday, Nov. 14 at J.S. Coyne Stadium. Syracuse will face the winner of Kent State and UMass at 11:30 a.m.
