Syracuse Tennis Loses 6-1 at No. 7 Virginia

Bachini wins her singles point
Breanna Bachini picked up a singles win for the No. 59 Syracuse tennis team, but No. 7 Virginia won the match 6-1 on Saturday.
Bachini rallied from a first-set loss to take t to the second and gutted out a long third set to defeat Cassie Mercer 3-6, 7-5, 15-13.
The Cavaliers began the match by sweeping the doubles portion to take a 1-0 lead. Danielle Collins and Setphanie Nauta defeated Rhiann Newborn and Amanda Rodgers 8-2, and Maci Epstein and Marie Faure beat Breanna Bachini and Nicole Mitchell 8-3 before the third and final doubles match was haulted.
Syracuse's Komal Safdar and Valeria Salazar were trailing 5-7 to the nation's No. 22 ranked tandem of Mercer and Skylar Morton at the time it was stopped.
In singles play, No. 42 Collins defeated Amanda Rodgers 7-5, 6-3, No. 30 Nauta defeated Valeria Salazar 6-3, 6-3.
Rhiann Newborn took Morton to three sets, but ultimately fell 4-6, 6-2, 3-6.
No. 102 Epstean also defeated Safdar 6-2, 7-6 (10-8).
Syracuse continues its ACC road swing next Friday at Notre Dame. Doubles is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
