Carrier Dome Completes Wild Month

Syracuse University has the most versatile facility in the country on its campus - the Carrier Dome. It is always a busy place, consistently hosting over 250 events a year, plus numerous meetings, classes, practices and workouts, but the Dome and its staff were truly put to the test and the facility showed its worth in the month of March when it hosted a wide array of events and saw more than 171,000 patrons come through the doors.
The month began with a men's lacrosse home game on the 1st and quickly changed over for the men's basketball home finale on the 2nd. The staff then transformed the facility to host Monster Jam on March 6-7. After hundreds of truckloads of dirt were removed and the entire stadium was cleaned, the Orange men's lacrosse team was back in action on their home field on March 14 and the women's lacrosse team returned to the Dome on March 17.
Following the that game, the Dome was converted into full concert mode for Billy Joel's record-breaking seventh performance at the facility. The March 20 concert drew over 36,000 and the floor seating and stage structure were completely deconstructed following the show to be ready for the men's lacrosse game vs. Duke on Sunday, March 22.
After the men's lacrosse game vs. Duke on March 22, the Dome again transformed, this time for the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship East Regional on March 27-29. The event drew over 48,000 people for the two game days, drawing fans and economic impact from around the country. After Michigan State cut down the nets on Sunday afternoon, the Dome staff was back to work, converting the building from the unique regional set-up back to a full-field lacrosse set-up as the Orange men's team is in action on Thursday vs. Albany.
