Rice Named ACC Men's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Seven Orange earn All-ACC Academic Team honors
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Attackman Kevin Rice has been named the 2015 Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year, ACC Commissioner John Swofford announced on Monday, June 22. Rice leads a list of seven Orange men's lacrosse student-athletes who were selected to this year's All-ACC Academic Men's Lacrosse Team, which was released today by the conference.

Joining Rice on the 33-man team were teammates Dylan Donahue, Jordan Evans, Tom Grimm, Peter Macartney, Brandon Mullins and Ben Williams.

This is the second consecutive year Rice, Macartney and Mullins have received All-ACC Academic Team honors.

A Capital One First Team Academic All-American, Rice earned his bachelor's degree in history from Syracuse in May and plans to attend law school at Wake Forest University this fall. On the field, Rice paced the Orange with 84 points and 48 assists. He finished fourth nationally in scoring (5.25 ppg) and third in assists per game (3.0) on his way to earning USILA First Team All-America plaudits. Additionally, Rice was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Year and ACC Championship Most Valuable Player after leading Syracuse to its first ACC title back in April.

Donahue paced the Orange in 2015 with 50 goals, marking the first 50-goal season for an SU player in more than two decades. He also contributed 21 assists to finish second on the squad in scoring with 71 points.

A member of the second midfield, Evans scored nine goals and recorded three assists in 14 games. The sophomore turned in a breakout performance against Marist in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, notching a career-high five goals in a 20-8 Syracuse victory.

Grimm served as one of the team's five 2015 captains and was the squad's top short-stick defensive midfielder. He played in all 16 games and finished the year with three goals, two assists, and 16 ground balls.

The Orange's top LSM, Macartney was third on the team with 40 ground balls in 2015. He also forced seven turnovers.

Like Rice, Mullins was named a 2015 USILA First Team All-American. Mullins owns a streak of 32 consecutive starts on defense and led the Orange with 14 caused turnovers.

Williams is one of the nation's top faceoff specialists. He ranked second in the NCAA in faceoff winning percentage (.674) and led the country in ground balls per game (9.56). In addition, Williams finished the year second on the Orange's single-season record list for most faceoffs won (256) and most ground balls (153).

All five of the league's men's lacrosse programs were represented on the All-ACC Academic Team. Duke led the way with nine selections, followed by Notre Dame (8), Syracuse (7), North Carolina (6) and Virginia (3).

To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic Team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.0 grade-point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.0 cumulative GPA during his academic career.
