Cater and Team Canada Take Gold

'Cuse softball rising senior earns gold at Pan Am Games
AJAX, ONTARIO - Rising senior Jocelyn Cater and the Canadian Women's Softball Team ruptured the United States' streak of seven consecutive Pan American Games Gold medals on Sunday. Canada defeated the United States 4-2 in an extra inning win, receiving its first Gold medal at the event since 1983.

In the opening round of play against Brazil, Cater and former Syracuse standout Jenna Caira dominated in the circle, shutting out the Brazilian team and combining for a one-hitter.

Cater then started for Team Canada in its 9-7 win over the Dominican Republic, which improved them to 3-1 going into the last round of preliminaries. With a win over Puerto Rico in the final preliminary round game, Team Canada earned double-life heading into the playoffs, securing a medal in the process.

After dropping its first playoff game to the United States, Team Canada earned a spot in the Gold medal game after defeating Puerto Rico 7-4. Caira was accredited for the win, allowing five hits and striking out eight batters in the process.
