White, Powell and Megill highlight U.S. roster
The red, white and blue will have plenty of Orange at the World Indoor Lacrosse Championships.
Â
Former Orange stars Casey Powell, Joel White and Brian Megill highlight the 23-man United States roster for the World Indoor Championships, which will take place Sept. 18-27 in Syracuse and on the Onondaga Nation.
One of the top attackmen in lacrosse, Powell was a four-time All-American at Syracuse and was twice the winner of the Lt. Raymond J. Enners Award as the USILA Player of the Year (1997, 1998). He was the Orange's all-time leader in points at the conclusion of his collegiate career with 287 (158 goals, 129 assists). He was later tied by his brother Ryan (1997-00) and passed by youngest brother Mike (2001-04).
Â
Professionally, Powell owns the Major League Lacrosse record for career points (504), and was the 2014 MLL Offensive Player of the Year.
Â
Megill was a USILA Second Team All-American and a Tewaaraton Award nominee in both his junior and senior seasons and is Syracuse's all-time leader in caused turnovers (103).
Â
White became the first defensive specialist to win the Lt. Donald C. MacLaughlin Jr. Award as the nation's most outstanding midfielder in 2010. He was a three-time USILA All-American, twice being named to the first team (2010, 2011) and was also a Tewaaraton Award finalist both seasons. The Cortland, N.Y. native is Syracuse's all-time leader in ground balls (283), points by a defender (28) and goals (18) by a defensive player.
Â
In addition to the three representatives on the U.S. squad, the host Iroquois roster also has Syracuse ties. Former standouts Randy Staats, Brett Bucktooth and Sid Smith are slated to suit up for the squad, while former attackman Cody Jamieson will serve as an assistant coach.
