Lydon Selected to Wooden Award Preseason Top 50

SYRACUSE, N.Y. –Syracuse forward Tyler Lydon was named to the 2017 John R. Wooden Award Preseason Top 50, announced Tuesday on ESPN's SportsCenter and ESPN.com. The award is the most prestigious collegiate basketball honor and recognizes the nation's most outstanding basketball player each year.
The sophomore earned a spot on three other preseason watch lists, including the Naismith Trophy, Lute Olson Player of the Year Award, the Karl Malone Top Power Forward Award. Lydon finished a stellar rookie campaign seeing action in all 37 games to help the Orange reach the NCAA Final Four.
The list will be narrowed to a midseason, late and finally a National Ballot list. The Wooden Award All-American team will be announced during the 'Elite Eight' round of the NCAA Tournament, while the recipient of the John R. Wooden Award will be announced during ESPN's College Basketball Awards Show presented by Wendy's on Friday, April 7, 2017.
The Atlantic Coast Conference holds the highest representation on the list with 12 players nominated. Following the ACC are the Big Ten (10), the Pac-12 (7), the Big 12 (6), the Big East (5) and the SEC (5) rounding out the top five conferences.
'Cuse returns to the Carrier Dome tonight to host Holy Cross in its second regular-season game of the 2016-17 slate. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
