SYRACUSE, N.Y.-Â Seniors Kevyn Hoyos of the men's track and field team and Kayla Treanor of the women's lacrosse team are this week's Orange Scholar Athletes of the Week.
Hoyos majors in economics in the School of Arts and Sciences. The senior recently helped the Syracuse men's track and field team to winning the Atlantic Coast Conference indoor title, which is the first indoor conference title for Syracuse since 1992. Hoyos placed ninth (14:10.95) in the 5000-meters competition at the ACC Championships, as teammate Justyn Knight led the way by taking first place. At the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, Hoyos was joined by three other Syracuse runners to take first place in the distance medley relay with a time of 9:47.43.
Treanor majors in selected studies in education with a minor in sociology in the School of Education. The senior led No. 2 Syracuse to a 16-12 win over No. 5 Northwestern on Sunday, finishing with a game-high four goals to go with one assist. So far this season, Treanor is second on Syracuse with 21 points through four games, including 11 goals and 10 assists.Â
Hoyos and the Orange return to action on Saturday, March 5 when the squad travels to Boston, Mass. for the ECAC/IC4A Championships in preparation of the NCAA Indoor Championships the following weekend.
Treanor and the Syracuse women's lacrosse team are back in action at home tomorrow to take on No. 3 Florida at the Carrier Dome at noon. Admission for fans is free.
