A standout attackman from 1956-58 under his father, Simmons Jr. was the second-leading scorer behind Jim Brown in 1957. Following his successful playing career, he took over at the helm of the program from Roy Simmons Sr. in 1971, where he elevated the program to new heights, becoming the first coach to win six NCAA Division I National Championships (1983, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1993 and 1995).
One-of-two coaches to have won three-consecutive NCAA Division I Championships, Simmons Jr. posted a career record of 290-96 over his 28 years leading the Orange, including 16-straight trips to the national semifinals. Simmons Jr. coached 131 All-Americans and five National Players of the Year before he was inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 1991.
He owns the third-best winning percentage in NCAA Tournament history, ninth-best winning percentage all time in NCAA Division I and third-most wins in NCAA Tournament play among coaches.
The event is scheduled to begin with a cocktail hour at 6:30 p.m. and will take place at the Loews Philadephia.
