SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse softball team returns home on Wednesday in a midweek doubleheader matchup against in-state foe Canisius beginning at 4 p.m. The games will be broadcast live on CuseTV.

After a successful series win this past weekend against ACC opponent Virginia, the Orange look to pick up two more wins against the Golden Griffins. The weekend puts 'Cuse at a 19-17 overall record and a 6-8 conference record.

PREVIEWING CANISIUS
The Golden Griffins hold a 9-22 record on the 2016 season, picking up all nine wins in non-conference action. Canisius is on a two-game losing streak after dropping a pair of games against Siena 13-8 and 7-4 this past Sunday.

Syracuse looks to add two more wins to the overall series column, as the Orange post a 12-6 advantage in the series that began in the Orange's inaugural season back in 2000. The two programs most recently met last season, with 'Cuse coming out on top 9-1 at Canisius.

Junior Lindsey Silfer leads Canisius on the offensive end, posting a .385 batting average off of 35 hits while reeling in 26 RBIs. Sophomore pitcher Erika Mackie posts a 3.12 ERA with 83 innings pitched and 43 strikeouts.

WEEKEND RECAP
The Orange are coming off of a series victory in ACC action against Virginia this past weekend, bouncing back to take game two and three of the series 10-8 and 8-4 after falling in the opening game 5-3.

Sophomore Sammy Fernandez proved to be a star on the weekend, accumulating seven hits over the course of three games. Fernandez racked up four hits in five at bats in the second game while recording her sixth double of the season that drove in a run. She reeled in two RBIs on the weekend to help the Orange claim the series against the Cavaliers.

The 2-1 weekend marks the third consecutive year Syracuse has won the series over Virginia in ACC play.

- With her continued success at the plate, sophomore Sammy Fernandez leads the team in hits (38), doubles (6), triples (3), and runs (24), and ranks second on the team in batting average (.299) and total bases (50).
- The Syracuse defense boasts the best fielding percentage in the ACC with a .969 average, also good for 31st in the nation.
- In the circle, the Orange have compiled a third-best in the ACC 2.53 ERA.
- Junior Sydney O'Hara leads the ACC and is 21st in the nation in earned run average with a 1.48 mark.
- O'Hara only allows an average of 3.99 hits per seven innings, good for first in the conference and 11th in the nation.
