
Women's Soccer Earns APR Recognition

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.-Â Following another impressive year in the classroom, the Syracuse women's soccer team was honored as one of the NCAA's top academic teams. The Orange were recognized by earning NCAA Division I Academic Performance Program (APP) Public Recognition, the national office announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Based on their most recent multiyear Academic Progress Rate, the Syracuse women's soccer team was honored with the award for posting scores in the top 10 percent of their sport. It marks the second time since 2010 that women's soccer at Syracuse has received the award.Â
"This speaks volumes about the quality of the student-athletes that we have here at Syracuse. I am proud of our players and their achievements on and off the field," head coach Phil Wheddon said. "We aim for excellence in both academics and competition. I would like to thank all of our student-athletes for their hard work and dedication. I would also like to thank all of our academic support staff that provide the tools for our student-athletes to be successful."
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship.
The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport. The scores required to in the top 10 ranged from 983 to a perfect 1,000, depending on the sport.
The Orange women's soccer team represents Syracuse as a part of the 290 schools that were honored for the award on Wednesday. Since the Public Recognition Award was established 11 years ago, Syracuse has had a total of 27 teams recognized for the award.

Each year, the NCAA Division I Academic Performance Program (APP)Â honors selected NCAA Division I sports teams by publicly recognizing their latest multiyear NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate. This announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports. Specifically, these teams posted multiyear APRs in the top 10 percent of all squads in each sport.

Multiyear APRs for all Division I sports teams, including the teams receiving public recognition, will be announced April 20.  That announcement also will include APP penalties for low-performing teams, teams subject to postseason ineligibility and head coach APRs.  As in past years, you will be notified prior to this public release of scores, postseason ineligibility and penalties.
