Binghamton 'No Huddle Tour' Stop a Hit
5/18/2016 9:50:00 PM | Men's Basketball, Football, General
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The third leg of the Syracuse Athletics 'No Huddle Tour' took place Wednesday night with a stop at NYSEG Stadium for the Double-A baseball game between the Binghamton Mets and Altoona Curve.
Â
Head football coach Dino Babers, men's basketball coach Jim Boeheim, and three-time All-American Floyd Little threw out the first pitches prior to the contest. The trio received a tour of the Binghamton clubhouse and mingled with Mets manager Pedro Lopez. They also met club owner John Hughes and posed for pictures with hundreds of Orange fans from the Binghamton region.
Â
The show of support was not lost on Boeheim.
Â
"We have a ton of season ticket holders right in Binghamton and in this area, so it's good to get down here and nice to watch a little baseball, too," Boeheim said.
Â
For Babers, a San Diego, Calif. native, it was an opportunity to get out and enjoy one of his favorite sports growing up.
Â
"Something I've always loved was baseball. Dad wouldn't let me play though. He wanted to have a football son," Babers said. "But I've always enjoyed baseball. I was a big San Diego Padres fan. I used to sit in the cheap seats in right field – something they now call McCovey Cove – and watch all the different teams come through there."
Â
Babers and Boeheim both delivered solid offerings from the mound before the game, while Little brought some levity to the moment by pausing and then walking his pitch to the catcher.
Â
The 'No Huddle Tour' continues in August with two appearances in Syracuse. The first is the football program's annual FanFest on Aug. 13 at the SU Soccer Stadium. The second is at the Triple-A game baseball game between the Syracuse Chiefs and Pawtucket Red Sox on Aug. 27 at NBT Bank Stadium.
Â
Additional 'No Huddle Tour' stops may be added, so visit Cuse.com frequently for updates.
