LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Syracuse softball student-athletes Sydney O'Hara and AnnaMarie Gatti earned Mid-Atlantic All-Region honors announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association on Thursday. O'Hara, a junior, earned second team honors, while sophomore Gatti picked up third team recognition.
Â
A native of Cicero, N.Y., O'Hara makes her second appearance on the NFCA All-Region list after a Mid-Atlantic All-Region First Team nod during her rookie campaign in 2014. A multifaceted force to be reckoned with, O'Hara made her mark both at the plate and in the circle on the 2016 season.
Â
After 24 appearances in the circle, O'Hara garnered an ACC-best and 16th in the nation 1.47 ERA. Over the course of 62 innings pitched, she held opponents to a .167 batting average and allowed only 4.06 hits per seven innings, both good for first in the conference. Coming up big when the pressure was on, O'Hara was accountable for five of the Orange's ACC-best eight saves on the season. Her five saves set a new Syracuse single-season record, surpassing former Orange standouts Jenna Caira's and Erin Downey's four saves.
Â
On the batting side of things, O'Hara finished the season with 37 hits and a .272 batting average, both the fourth-best marks on the squad. She landed second on the team with 29 RBIs while racking up five doubles, one triple, and six home runs on the 2016 season.
Â
Gatti, a native of Scottdale, Pa., earned her first NFCA All-Region recognition after finishing her sophomore campaign with a 2.63 ERA over the course of 157 innings pitched. After 33 appearances, including 27 starts, Gatti tossed 12 complete games while registering five shutout wins.
Â
She earned her first ACC Pitcher of the Week nod back in February after her performance against Ohio State in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Pitching a total of eight innings over the course of two games, Gatti threw a complete shutout against the Buckeyes in the first matchup, allowing just two hits while retiring four batters on a way to a 1-0 victory. In the second game, Gatti earned the save after allowing just one Buckeye hit that sealed a 3-2 victory for the Orange.
Â
The NFCA Division I All-Region honors award softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first, second team and third team selections. NFCA member coaches from each respective region voted on the teams, and all honorees now become eligible for selection to the 2016 NFCA Division I All-American squads.
Â
The 2016 NFCA Division I All-America teams will be announced at approximately 5 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, June 1, via NFCA.org.
