Three Advance to NCAA Quarterfinals
5/28/2016 12:43:00 AM | Track and Field
Freddie Crittenden III led all-three Syracuse competitors in the 110-meter hurdles preliminaries onto Saturday's quarterfinal, to highlight day two at the NCAA East Prelims.
Â
Crittenden III clocked a time of 13.91 seconds in his heat to earn an automatic spot in Saturday's quarterfinals, where he'll be joined by David Gilstrap (14.07) and Richard Floyd (14.09).
Gilstrap also advanced automatically, by way of being one of the top-three finishers in his heat.
Tia Thevenin competed in the women's 100-meter hurdles, clocking a time of 13.83 seconds, which wasn't good enough to advance.
Winston Lee competed in the quarterfinals of the 100-meters for SU, he clocked a personal best time of 10.46 seconds and finished 18th overall.
The three qualifications from today sets up a long list of competitors looking to punch their tickets to Eugene, Oregon for the NCAA Championships on Saturday. In addition to Crittenden III, Gilstrap and Floyd, Justyn Knight will compete in the 5k, Joel Hubbard and Adam Palamar will race in the 1500-meters and Syracuse will also have a 4x100-meter relay team competing.
Â
Margo Malone, Shaylyn Tuite, Colin Bennie and Philo Germano have already qualified for 'Cuse in the 10k. If Syracuse gets five more qualifiers from the six student-athletes and a relay team competing, it'll break the program record for most NCAA Championship qualifiers (8), which was set last season.
