Boeheim Back, Reflects On Third Gold-Medal Finish

Jim Boeheim chatted up the Syracuse area media less than 48 hours after helping coach Team USA to a gold medal in the Rio Olympics.
"It was a great finish in the event (Rio Olympics) that we knew going in we had to win," said Boeheim. "It was good to win it that way, convincingly, to finish this Olympics."
He answered questions covering the 2016 run to the gold by the Americans, compared the experience to the efforts of the 2008 and 2012 squads which also won gold, and talked about the state of USA Basketball. Boeheim was also asked his thoughts about the performance of former Syracuse All-American Carmelo Anthony, questions he responded to in the hall of fame wing of the Carmelo K. Anthony Basketball Center in Syracuse.
Boeheim joined the USA Basketball Senior Men's Team program at the invitation of Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski, who had been named to lead the team in the wake of a bronze-medal finish in the 2004 Olympics. Krzyzewski and Boeheim became the two primary members of the coaching staff who remained constant as USA Basketball re-tooled and won gold medals in Beijing (2008), London (2012) and Rio (2016). Krzyzewski became the first U.S. coach to lead three gold-medal winning Olympic teams.
Anthony was a key member of the run. He first participated in the 2004 Olympics in Greece. In the process, he became the first member of the U.S. program to compete in four Olympics and win three gold medals. He also set U.S. Olympic records for individual games played, points scored and rebounds.
