Syracuse looking for second straight win
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – For the 12th time in program history, the Syracuse football team will play in the Meadowlands when it takes on Notre Dame in the 2016 New York's College Classic at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. on Saturday.
Â
The Orange are a third of the way through the 2016 regular season and own a 2-2 overall record. Syracuse is coming off a 31-24 road win at Connecticut on Sept. 24.
Â
"It was a close game," head coach Dino Babers said during his weekly news conference on Monday. "A game in the fourth quarter. A game that the defense came up with big plays and big stops. The offense came up with a drive when they had to, even though we had gone cold offensively. They came up with a 99-yard drive to ice the game. A good team win."
Â
Redshirt senior wide receiver Amba Etta-Tawo set the program single-game record with 270 receiving yards against the Huskies. Sophomore quarterback Eric Dungey passed for 407 yards to become the fifth different SU quarterback to throw for 400 yards in a game.
Â
"Eric has relationships with the entire group (of receivers)," Babers said. "It just seems like they (Dungey and Etta-Tawo) have a great feel for each other."
Â
Notre Dame is coming off a 38-35 loss against Duke last weekend. The Fighting Irish own a 1-3 overall mark. Junior quarterback DeShone Kizer has thrown for 1,096 yards and 11 touchdowns this season. He's also the team's leader with five rushing scores.
Â
"They're really good," Babers said. "We're going to get their best shot, there's no doubt."
Â
Syracuse is looking to even the all-time series against Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish own a slight edge in the previous seven meetings, winning four.
Â
Kickoff is scheduled for noon and the game will be televised on ESPN. Tickets are on sale now at nycollegeclassic.com and the Carrier Dome Box Office (888-DOMETIX).Â
