MacPherson Named Campbell Trophy Semifinalist

William V. Campbell Trophy is presented annually to the nation's top football scholar-athlete
IRVING, Texas – Senior tight end Cameron MacPherson was named a semifinalist for the 2016 William V. Campbell Trophy, the National Football Foundation (NFF) and College Football Hall of Fame announced on Wednesday, Sept. 28. The trophy is annually presented to the top football scholar-athlete in the country.

MacPherson is a standout in the classroom. He holds two bachelor's degrees from Syracuse. One in international relations and the other in television radio and film. MacPherson is currently pursuing a graduate degree in Pan African studies. In addition, MacPherson has been named to the SU Athletic Director's Honor Roll (min. 3.0 GPA) every semester he's been at Syracuse since transferring from Georgetown in 2014. A two-time ACC Honor Roll selection, MacPherson was a 2015-16 Syracuse University Remembrance Scholar.

MacPherson's community service work includes serving as the co-coordinator of youth programming for Hopeprint, a refugee and resettlement and urban development non-profit organization in Syracuse. He is also volunteer for the Writing Our Lives creative literacy program, and serves in a leadership role for the Syracuse University chapter of Uplifting Athletes. In 2016, MacPherson helped organize the group's "Lift for Life" which raised nearly $20,000 for rare-disease research.
On the field, MacPherson has started two of the Orange's four games this season. He has three receptions for eight yards. He is also a regular contributor on special teams.

The NFF will announce the 12-14 Campbell Trophy finalists on Nov.1. Each of the finalists will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class, presented by Fidelity Investments. The finalists will travel to New York City for the 59th NFF Annual Awards Dinner on Dec. 6, where their accomplishments will be highlighted in front of one of the most powerful audiences in all of sports. At the event, one member of the class will be declared the winner of the 27th William V. Campbell Trophy and have his postgraduate scholarship increased to $25,000.
