GREENSBORO, N.C. – Seven home games, including a Friday night date with reigning national champion Clemson, highlight the 2017 Syracuse University football schedule, released Tuesday, Jan. 24 by the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Â
The Orange open the year with three consecutive non-conference home contests, including two against first-time foes. Syracuse begins head coach Dino Babers' second campaign at the Carrier Dome Saturday, Sept. 2 with its inaugural clash against Central Connecticut State. A week later, the Orange entertain another first-time opponent, Middle Tennessee (Sept. 9), before capping the homestand versus Central Michigan on Sept. 16.
Â
To close out non-conference play, the Orange make their first trip to Death Valley for a Sept. 23 matchup against perennial SEC powerhouse LSU at Tiger Stadium.
Â
Syracuse starts ACC competition the following week at NC State (Sept. 30) before returning home for a pair of games. The Orange host Pittsburgh on Oct. 7 and welcome 2016 College Football Playoff (CFP) champion Clemson to the Dome for a primetime affair Friday, Oct. 13. SU's first trip to Miami since 2003, when both schools were members of the BIG EAST, is scheduled for Oct. 21.
Â
After an open date, Syracuse begins the month of November on the road against Florida State (Nov. 4). A home tilt with Wake Forest (Nov. 11) and a road game at Louisville (Nov. 18) precede the home regular-season finale versus Boston College on Nov. 25.
Syracuse's 12 opponents combined for a 95-60 (.613) record in 2016. All 11 of the Orange's FBS foes played in a bowl game last season. They combined for eight postseason victories, including both of Clemson's CFP wins.
Â
"Eleven bowl teams. The defending national champions (Clemson). There's no doubt it's a challenging schedule," Babers said. "But we're going to embrace it. We don't' shy away from those things here. We have seven games in the Carrier Dome in front of our fans. That's great for this community. That's exciting. And I think it's exciting for our players also."
Â
Season tickets for Syracuse football are on sale now online and by phone (888-DOME-TIX). Tickets for SU's seven home dates start at $125, a savings of more than 15 percent compared to single-game prices.
Â
Individual game tickets, prices, theme days and promotions will be announced at a later date. An exclusive pre-sale for Orange Club members to purchase single-game tickets is expected to launch in late April. Group-ticket packages (15 or more) will be available beginning in early February.
Syracuse returns 19 of 22 starters on offense and defense from Babers' inaugural Syracuse squad. The Orange set or tied more than 40 offensive school records in his first year at the helm and defeated No. 17 Virginia Tech for the program's first win against a ranked opponent since 2012.
