'Cuse Picked Sixth in Maverik Media Poll

The Syracuse men's lacrosse team was picked sixth in the Maverik Men's Lacrosse Media Poll on Monday, rounding out the four major lacrosse preseason polls.
The Orange was ranked fifth (NIKE/USILA Coaches' Poll), Seventh (Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Yearbook) and eighth (NIKE/U.S. Lacrosse Preseason Top-20) in addition to their No. 6 ranking by the media.
Defending NCAA Champion and ACC rival North Carolina (631 points/18 first place votes) edged Maryland (610 points/seven first place votes) for the No. 1 spot in the poll, with Denver (588 points/eight first place votes) serving as the third team to get votes at the top of the poll.
Fellow ACC foe Notre Dame checked in at No. 4 with 532 points, followed by Loyola with 509 points, ahead of Syracuse's 454.
In addition to the Tar Heels and Fighting Irish, Syracuse will face No. 9 Johns Hopkins, No. 10 Duke, No. 13 Albany, No. 15 Virginia as well as Army and Cornell, who are receiving votes in the poll.
Hofstra, who Syracuse defeated on Sunday in its season opening scrimmage, is also receiving votes, as is Harvard, Syracuse's next scrimmage opponent.
Syracuse will open its 101th year of lacrosse on Saturday, Feb. 11 when the team hosts Siena.
