SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse women's soccer team has announced the addition of goalkeeper Lysianne Proulx to the 2017 roster. Proulx, a 2016 graduate of Collège Francais in Montreal, Canada joined the Orange at the beginning of the spring semester and will take part in the spring season with the team.
Proulx has represented Canada in three Women's World Cups with the U-17 and U-20 squads. She has also competed in three CONCACAF Championships, including winning gold in 2014 with the U-15 Canadian National Team. During the CONCACAF tournament, Proulx also won the Golden Glove award, given to the best goalkeeper in the tournament.
While competing at the U-17 Women's World Cup in Jordan last year, Proulx played in two matches for Canada and was named the FIFA Live Your Goals Player of the Match against Germany.
Proulx was drawn to Syracuse because of the strong goalkeeping background of head coach Phil Wheddon. Wheddon has worked with some of the best goalkeepers the United States has ever produced at the Olympic and World Cup levels, including, Hope Solo, Brianna Scurry, Tim Howard and Kasey Keller.
"When I came to visit, I really liked the team and how the girls all got along together," Proulx said. "I think Phil (Wheddon) is a very good coach and I have no doubt that he will make me better."
Enrolling early and being able to train with the team in the spring was an added bonus for Proulx.
"Being able to start training with the team will put me at a higher level come fall season," Proulx said.
Proulx and the Orange are currently in the midst of the strength and conditioning phase, working towards their first spring fixture at Penn State on Feb. 25.
