
Murphy, Vigna Named Scholar-Athletes Of The Week

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Cole Murphy of the football team and Jessica Vigna of the women's soccer team are this week's Syracuse Scholar-Athletes of the Week.
A senior from Castaic, Calif., Murphy is pursuing a degree in child and family studies. He is a two-time ACC Academic Honor Roll member and has qualified for the SU Athletic Director's Honor Roll in four different semesters.
In the 2017 season, Murphy has connected on 8-of-10 field goals and 16-of-17 extra points. He has appeared in every game during his Syracuse career. During his freshman year, he was a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award (presented to the nation's top kicker). Murphy currently ranks second all-time in program history for field goals made (47) and extra points converted (100).
A senior from Farmingdale, N.J., Vigna is pursuing a degree in health and exercise science. She is a two-time ACC Academic Honor Roll recipient and has qualified for the SU Athletic Director's Honor Roll in all six of her completed semesters.
During the 2017 season, Vigna has started in all 11 games for the Orange. She recorded an assist in the victory over Fairfield and has been a staple in the Syracuse back line that has five shutouts on the year. Vigna has appeared in 66 games over the course of her career and has eight points on two goals and four assists.
Murphy and the football team return home to take on Pittsburgh Saturday, Oct. 7 at 12:30 p.m. in an ACC matchup.
