BUFFALO, N.Y. – Former Syracuse University safety Shamarko Thomas was one of three players signed to the Buffalo Bills active roster on Tuesday, Oct. 3. In addition to Thomas, the Bills also signed receiver Philly Brown and safety Trae Elston.
Â
A fourth-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2013 NFL Draft, Thomas played in 51 games for the Steelers from 2013-16, including three playoff games. He logged 53 tackles, including 29 on special teams, in his four seasons with the club.
Â
In June, Thomas signed a free-agent contract with the New York Jets, but did not make their final 53-man roster and was released in early September.
Â
At Syracuse, Thomas was an All-BIG EAST First Team selection as a senior in 2012. He ranks sixth on the Orange record list for most tackles by a defensive back (263) and led SU with 88 stops in his final collegiate season.
Â
Thomas joins a Bills team that sits atop the AFC East with a 3-1 record. Buffalo plays at Cincinnati this weekend.
