
Three Honored with ACC Postgrad Scholarships

Three Syracuse student-athletes are being rewarded for their academic and athletic achievements with Weaver-James-Corrigan Award post-graduate scholarships from the ACC, the league announced on Wednesday.
Saydee McQuay (rowing), Kaeli O'Connor (women's lacrosse) and Adam Palamar (track and field) are the trio of Syracuse student-athletes among the 54 recipients of the award who will receive $5,000 towards their postgraduate education. Those honored have performed with distinction in both the classroom and their respective sport, while demonstrating exemplary conduct in the community.
McQuay is a two-time CRCA National Scholar-Athlete Award recipient and was a 2016 All-ACC Academic Team honoree. She Sat in the first varsity eight boat as a junior  and helped the first varsity eight crew to a 12th-place showing at the 2016 NCAA Championship, its best finish since 2002.
A North Dartmouth, Massachusetts native, she was a member of the second varsity eight boat as a sophomore and rowed in the first varsity four crew as a freshman where she collected ACC Crew of the Week accolades after the team's performance at the Monticello Invitational in 2014. She is majoring in biology and neuroscience in the College of Arts and Sciences at SU.
O'Connor is a three-year starter on defense for the Orange. Last season, she posted career highs in ground balls (38) and caused turnovers (18). She helped the Syracuse defense hold its opponents to less than 10 goals 12 times. Off the field, O'Connor has volunteered for the Special Olympics in Syracuse and as a Santa's Helper in the Baltimore area, assisting in assembling and delivering packages that provide Christmas meals and gifts for 1,000 families in need.
A Cockeysville, Maryland native, O'Connor has been named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll as well as the ACC All-Academic Team. She is majoring in biology in the College of Arts and Sciences.
A two-time All-American on the track, Palamar was a key component in the Syracuse men's track and field team winning its first ACC Championship in 2016, his first season with the program. He went on to finish eighth in the mile at the NCAA Championships to earn USTFCCCA First Team All-America honors after taking third in the same event and second in the DMR during the 2016 ACC Indoor Championship.
During the outdoor season, the Ottawa, Ontario native earned Second Team All-America honors in the 1500-meters. In addition to his success on the track, Palamar has been a star off it as well. He's majoring in biology at SU, twice earning ACC All-Academic honors for track and twice earning USTFCCCA All-Academic honors.
The student-athletes will be honored at the annual Cone Health ACC Postgraduate Luncheon hosted by the Nat Greene Kiwanis Club and presented by ESPN on April 12 at the Sheraton Four Seasons Hotel Imperial Ballroom in Greensboro.
