Orange Trio Qualifies for NCAA Championships
3/1/2017 10:19:00 AM | Men's Lacrosse
A trio of Syracuse men's track and field athletes will represent the Orange at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in College Station, Texas next week.
Sophomore Justyn Knight and seniors Freddie Crittenden III and Adam Palamar all return to compete in the same events they qualified in last season, with each seeded in the top-seven of their respective event.
In order to make the cut, a competitor must possess one of the top-16 qualifying times in an event.
Crittenden III, the runner up in the 60-meter hurdles from a season ago, enters this year's championship with a qualifying time just 0.01 seconds off the PR time which he ran at last year's event. His 7.65 second PR from the ACC Championship is good for fifth nationally. Florida's Grant Holloway (7.58) has the best time thus far.
Knight possesses the fourth-fastest 3000-meter time, a school-record mark that he bested his own time in this season, having posted a 7:47.82 time in earlier in the year. Washington's Colby Gilbert (7:45.71) owns the fastest time to date. Knight is coming off wins in the 3000 and 5000 at the ACC Championship, which earned him a share of ACC MVP honors.
Palamar set a time of 3:57.39 in the mile at the John Thomas Invitational this season, a mark that still stands as the seventh-best nationally. Oregon's Edward Cheserek has the nation's fastest time heading into the NCAA Championships, having run 3:52.01.
The NCAA Championships begin on Friday, March 10 at Texas A&M
