Gillon, Shkudun Named Scholar-Athletes of the Week

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – John Gillon of the men's basketball team and Anna Shkudun of the women's tennis team are this week's Syracuse Scholar-Athletes of the Week.
Gillon is pursuing a master's degree in instructional design, development and evaluation in the School of Education at Syracuse after earning an undergraduate degree in economics from Colorado State.
The Houston, Texas native is averaging 10.9 points per game and 5.3 assists per game this season and has started in the last 18 games for the Orange. Gillon has registered three double-doubles this season and had a career-high 43 points in an overtime victory at NC State, tying a Syracuse single-game record with nine three-pointers.
Gillon and the men's basketball team will host UNC Greensboro on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in the Carrier for the opening round of the National Invitation Tournament. Tickets for that game can be purchased at TicketMaster.com.
Shkudun is in graduate school pursuing a master's degree in education in the School of Education.
The Energodar, Ukraine native was the first Syracuse player to be invited to the NCAA singles championship last season since 1996. She advanced to the second round with a win against Georgia State's Linn Timmermann. Shkudun was an All-ACC Second Team selection last season. This season, she has played in four matches at the No. 1 singles spot for the Orange.
Shkudun and the women's tennis team will face Navy in Lakeland, Florida on Tuesday, March 14 and will host Clemson on Friday, March 17 at Drumlins Country Club at 2 p.m.
