Senior tied NCAA single-game home run record
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior Sydney O'Hara is this week's espnW National Player of the Week, announced Tuesday by espnW writer Graham Hayes. O'Hara is the first player in Orange softball history to claim the accolade.
Leading Syracuse to an 11-5 comeback win in game two of last Friday's doubleheader at NC State, O'Hara tallied an NCAA record-tying four home runs in just four appearances at home plate. A native of Cicero, N.Y., O'Hara tacked on four runs and eight RBI on the game to lead the Orange offense to victory. At the conclusion of Friday's game, O'Hara became just 1-of-5 Division I players to accomplish the home run feat.
O'Hara went on to hit .700 on the weekend and tacked on a fifth home run in Sunday's series finale. With nine RBI and five hits on the weekend, O'Hara increased her season batting average to .500, a number that tops the Orange squad.
While a threat offensively, O'Hara also held her ground from the pitching circle, recording 11 strikeouts and just four earned runs to the Wolfpack. She is 4-1 on the year with four saves to her credit.
