The transfer from Washington University will add depth to the catcher position
Gianna Carideo, a Washington University transfer, joins the Syracuse softball team for the 2018 season. Carideo is a powerful right-handed hitter who will provide more depth for the Orange at the catcher position.
"As coaches we try to find players that fit Syracuse both athletically and academically. Gianna does just that," said head coach Mike Bosch. "We are excited to see what she can add to our program and can't wait to see her in Orange." Â
As a freshman for the Huskies, Carideo appeared in four games for the Women's College World Series semifinalists.
"I chose to attend Syracuse because of its highly renowned academic programs and also because of the athletics department's eagerness to compete with the best," said Carideo.
The Knoxville, Tenn., native was a four-year varsity player at Knoxville Catholic High School. During her senior year, Carideo was a Premier Girls Fastpitch All-American and was selected to the Tennessee Sports Writers Association All-State Team.
Carideo was also a member of the South Tampa Little League team that won the Little League World Series in 2013.
The daughter of Jim and Toni Carideo, Gianna has an older sister and a younger brother, Emily and Tate.
