Tops Friendly Markets, a leading full-service grocery retailer in upstate New York, northern Pennsylvania, western Vermont, and north central Massachusetts once again teamed up with Syracuse University's Athletics Program to donate $3,220 to the Food Bank of Central New York for the 'TOPS Attack Hunger' program. The money raised from the program will provide nourishment and resources for those who are food insecure in Central New York.
The final donation total was tabulated after the University's 2016-17 athletic season came to a close. For every win that Syracuse University achieved across its athletics platform, including football, field hockey, men's and women's Soccer, women's volleyball, women's ice hockey, men's and women's basketball, women's tennis, men's and women's lacrosse, and softball, Tops Friendly Markets donated $20 to the Food Bank of Central New York. Syracuse's 161 wins in 2016-2017 brought the total donation to $3,220.
"Tops is committed to eradicating hunger in our communities and 'TOPS Attack Hunger' addresses that promise head-on," said Frank Curci, Tops' CEO and chairman of the board. "Even one family left hungry is one too many—this program brings us one step closer to ending hunger in our communities, once and for all."
"We appreciate our partnership with TOPS to parlay the success of our coaches and student-athletes into a benefit for the community," said Syracuse University Director of Athletics John Wildhack. "It is a privilege to play a small part in the fight to end hunger in Central New York."
This year's 'TOPS Attack Hunger' donation will provide more than 9,600 meals to local families in need.
"Syracuse University Athletics and Tops Friendly Markets are fantastic partners of the Food Bank of Central New York," stated Karen Belcher, chief operating officer of the Food Bank of Central New York. "We are thrilled to have been chosen once again to receive the proceeds from the 'TOPS Attack Hunger' promotion. All funds received will allow us to provide food for nutritious meals in our 11 county service area."
