GREENSBORO, N.C. – Syracuse placekicker Andre Szmyt was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Specialist of the Week on Monday, Oct. 1 for his performance at Clemson Saturday. Szmyt connected on three field goals, including a career-long of 51 yards in the Orange's 27-23 loss to the third-ranked Tigers in Death Valley.
Â
The honor is Szmyt's second of the season. He was also tabbed ACC Specialist of the Week following Syracuse's Week 3 win over Florida State.
Â
At Clemson, Szmyt drilled a career-high three field goals for the third week in row, and he was responsible for 11 of the Orange's 23 points. He connected on field goals of 35, 51 and 32 yards in the opening half, as Syracuse took a 16-7 advantage into the break. Szmyt also made both of his PATs.
Â
Szmyt's 51-yarder is the longest made field goal in the ACC so far this season. Szmyt has two 50+ yard field goals this year. He's the fifth Syracuse kicker to make multiple 50-yard field goals in the same season, joining Dave Jacobs (1975, 1976, 1978), Gary Anderson (1981), Don McAulay (1984) and Cole Murphy (2014, 2017).
Â
Szmyt's current average of 2.6 field goals per game leads the nation.
Â
Szmyt and the Orange are on the road again Saturday, Oct. 6 when they visit Pittsburgh. Kickoff between the Orange and Panthers is set for 12:20 p.m. at Heinz Field.
