SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse football is back in the Top 25!
Â
For the first time in 17 years, the Orange are nationally-ranked, checking in at No. 22 in the Associated Press Poll and No. 24 in the Amway Coaches Poll on Sunday, Oct. 28.
Â
Prior to today, the last time the Orange appeared in the national rankings was on Jan. 4, 2002 when the final polls of the 2001 season were released. That year, the Orange finished No. 14 in the country with a 10-3 record led by All-America defensive end Dwight Freeney.
Â
After not receiving a vote in last week's AP rankings, Syracuse earned 192 points in this week's poll. Syracuse garnered six points in last week's vote by the coaches and secured 183 points this week.
Â
Led by third-year head coach Dino Babers, the Orange are 6-2 and have won five straight at home, including last night's 51-41 triumph over NC State. Their only losses are to Clemson, the No. 2 team in the country this week, in the final minute and a 44-37 overtime decision against Pittsburgh.
Â
Syracuse is back in action on Saturday, Nov. 3 at Wake Forest. Kickoff between the Orange and Demon Deacons is set for noon on RSN.
