
Dungey One of 30 Candidates for 2018 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award®

BALTIMORE – Orange senior quarterback Eric Dungey has been selected as a candidate for the 2018 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award®, presented by A.O. Smith.
The Golden Arm Award selection committee narrowed the 49-player preseason watch list down to the 30 official candidates for this year's award on Friday, Oct. 5.
Dungey is one of three ACC quarterbacks to make the cut, joining NC State's Ryan Finley and Virginia's Bryce Perkins.
Named after one of the greatest quarterbacks of all-time, the award has been presented annually since 1987 to the nation's top college quarterback. Candidates must be a college senior or fourth-year junior on schedule to graduate with their class. Criteria to be considered for the award include character, citizenship, scholastic achievement, leadership qualities and athletic accomplishments.
Dungey holds or shares 14 Syracuse school records and is one of two active FBS quarterbacks with more than 7,000 career passing yards and 1,000 career rushing yards.
Through five games this season, Dungey is 84-for-132 (.636) passing for 1,013 yards and nine touchdowns. He's run for 365 yards and six scores. Dungey leads the ACC and ranks 10th nationally with 90 points responsible for. He's been named ACC Quarterback of the Week twice.
In the season opener at Western Michigan, Dungey set the school single-game quarterback rushing record with 200 yards on the ground against the Broncos. The following week, Dungey tied the program record with five touchdown passes in the Orange's 62-7 victory over Wagner.
An accounting major in Syracuse's Martin J. Whitman School of Management, Dungey is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District Team honoree, a three-time ACC Honor Roll selection, and a previous member of the Syracuse Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Past Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award® winners include Syracuse's Don McPherson, who took home the inaugural trophy in 1987. Orange greats Marvin Graves (1993) and Donovan McNabb (1998) were Golden Arm Award finalists during their senior seasons.
