SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Noah Messner of the men's rowing team and Dina Hegab of the women's tennis team are this week's Syracuse Scholar-Athletes of the Week.
A senior from Grand Rapids, Mich., Messner is pursuing a bachelor's degree in public health in the Falk College. Messner is a two-time member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll and was tabbed to the ACC Academic Honor Roll for the 2016-17 school year.
Messner was part of the first varsity eight boat in every even during the 2017 season. He held the sixth seat in a majority of the races, helping his boat to a win at the Conlan Cup and an eighth place showing at the IRA Championship Regatta.
A junior hailing from Giza, Egypt, Hegab is an environmental and interior design major in the College of Visual and Performing Arts. Hegab has earned a spot on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll for three consecutive semesters and was tabbed to the ACC Academic Honor Roll in the spring of 2017.
In her third season with the Orange, Hegab holds a 25-20 career record in singles, including a perfect 5-0 record to kick-off the 2018 campaign. She has alternated between the No. 4, No. 5 and No.6 singles position, while also boasting a 4-1 record in doubles play this season.
Messner and the men's rowing team are in the mist of preparation for their season opener on April 7, while Hegab and the tennis team play a pair of matches this weekend, hosting Boston College on Friday at 4 p.m. and Yale on Sunday at 11 a.m.
