GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Syracuse's Alexa Romero and Florida State's Kylee Hanson received ACC Co-Pitcher of the Week accolades, the league announced Tuesday.
Romero pitched a perfect game in an 8-0 win over Sacramento State in five innings on Saturday night at the Mary Nutter Classic. She retired all 15 batters she faced and struck out nine.
Her perfect game was the second in program history and the first since 2000 when Tara DiMaggio threw a five-inning perfect game versus Buffalo. Romero's gem in the circle was the eighth no-hitter in Syracuse softball history and the first since Sydney O'Hara threw one in 2014.
Romero also played a crucial role in a 9-8 10-inning comeback win over Grand Canyon on Sunday. Although she didn't earn a decision in the game, Romero re-entered in the top of the fifth with the Orange trailing 5-1. She held the Lopes to one run over three innings of work, while the Orange were able to tie the game at six and force extra innings.
Romero is 4-0 on the season with a 1.47 ERA and 38 strikeouts.
The Orange play five games in three days at the Houston Hilton Plaza Invitational from Friday, Feb. 23 through Sunday, Feb. 25.
