
Bomberry, Merola Named Scholar-Athletes of the Week

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Tyson Bomberry of the men's lacrosse team and Neena Merola of the women's lacrosse team have been named this week's scholar-athletes of the week.
Bomberry is a product of Ohsweken, Ontario, pursuing a degree in Communication and Rhetorical Studies. He is a two-time member of the Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Honor Roll and has been named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll every semester that he has been enrolled at Syracuse.
Starting all seven of his games played this season, Bomberry runs with the first line defense, ranking second on the team in caused turnovers (eight). He tallied his first assist of the season in the Orange's 11-4 victory over Hobart.
Merola is also a double major, studying psychology and health and exercise science in the School of Education. A senior from Painted Post, N.Y., Merola has twice been tabbed to the ACC Academic Honor Roll and is a three-time member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
The senior has started eight of her 15 games played this season, alternating between the Orange's top two midfield lines. She is second among midfielders in goals (13) and points (16) and leads the team in draw controls with 38.
Bomberry and the men's lacrosse team return to action on Saturday when the host Navy at 2 p.m. in the final game before the ACC Tournament. Merola and the women's lacrosse team faceoff with ACC rival Louisville on Sunday at 1 p.m. for Senior Day. Both games will air on ACC Network Extra.
