Mellen Tabbed as IL All-American

Syracuse redshirt-sophomore Nick Mellen was tabbed as an Inside Lacrosse All-American for his stout defensive play on the opponent's top offensive weapon each week.

Mellen, who was named an Inside Lacrosse preseason and midseason All-American and earned All-ACC honors, was selected by a vote of lacrosse media members.

Drawing the top offensive player in each game, Mellen proved to be an elite cover defender. This season, he faced five of the top-11 scorers in the nation in seven contests (facing Cornell's Jeff Teat and Virginia's Michael Kraus twice each). His combined 15 opponents averaged 4.19 points per game in games in which they weren't facing Mellen, and 3.13 in games which Mellen was on the assignment.

Coming off a year where he missed the duration of the 2017 season due to injury, the Syracuse, N.Y. native led the team with 22 caused turnovers and collected 31 ground balls.

Mellen will anchor a defensive unit in 2019 that returns its entire starting unit as well as the team's top options at LSM, and first reserves off the bench.
