Five 'Cuse alums and MLL standouts will take place in Thursday's MLL All-Star Game, with three players suiting up for the MLL All-Stars and two playing for Team USA in the contest.
Matt Abbott (Chesapeake), Brandon Mullins (Boston) and Kevin Rice (Atlanta) will play for the MLL All-Stars, while Joel White (Dallas) and John Galloway (Dallas) will suit up for Team USA.
Syracuse's five representatives is tied for the third-most of any school nationally with longtime rival Johns Hopkins. Duke and Maryland are the lone schools ahead of the Orange in representation.
Abbott, who currently plays for the Chesapeake Bayhawks, was a two-time USILA All-American following the 2008 and 2009 NCAA Championship seasons. He was both a Tewaaraton and Senior CLASS Award Finalist in 2009 and finished his career with 212 ground balls.
Galloway was also a two-time goaltender of the year at 'Cuse, winning the Ensign C. Markland Kelly Jr. Award in both 2010 and 2011 after leading the Orange to back-to-back NCAA Championships in 2008 and 2009. He concluded his career as the NCAA all-time leader in wins (59) and minutes played by a goalie (3,776). He posed a career record of 59-8 and still ranks eighth in NCAA history in career goals against average (7.33), including a 7.20 goals against average in NCAA Tournament play, which is a 'Cuse record.
Mullins, a 2016 graduate, was a three-time USILA All-American at Syracuse and a two-time Tewaaraton Award nominee. A shutdown defender for the Orange, Mullins has the second-most caused turnovers in program history (76), including the second-most in a single season, when he forced 31 as a senior.
Rice was one of Syracuse's most prolific scorers ever, finishing with 222 career points, which is the 13th-most in program history. A Lt. Col. Jack Turnbull Award winner as a senior, for being the nation's top attackman, Rice's 126 assists are the seventh-most in program history. He's translated that success to the MLL as well, as he was on pace to shatter the MLL scoring record last year, before having his year cut short due to injury. He currently is tied for second in scoring this year with 46 points through nine games.
White became the first defensive specialist to win the Lt. Donald C. MacLaughlin Jr. Award as the nation's most outstanding midfielder in 2010. He was a three-time USILA All-American, twice being named to the first team (2010, 2011) and was also a Tewaaraton Award finalist both seasons. The Cortland, N.Y. native is Syracuse's all-time leader in ground balls (283), points by a defender (28) and goals (18) by a defensive player. He won an NLL Championship this season with the Georgia Swarm and currently plays for the Rochester Rattlers in the MLL.
