SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange have talent all across the world.
Alana O'Neill, a stalwart defender on the Syracuse women's soccer team from 2014-17, currently plays for FF Lugano 1976 in Nationalliga A, the top league in Switzerland. She is a regular starter for the second-place Lugano squad, which has a 4-1 record.
Coming off an 8-0 win against Baar this past weekend, O'Neill and her teammates next play Yverdon Saturday, Sept. 29 in their bid for the league title. League winners qualify for the UEFA Women's Champions League.
"I am very grateful to experience soccer at an international level," O'Neill said. "Everyone's here because they want to be here and because this is their passion. It's a beautiful thing to witness and be part of. We want to win games, win the league and make it to the Champions League."
O'Neill, a four-year letterwinner, had a steady presence throughout her Orange career. She started 72 of the 73 games she played at Syracuse, logging seven goals and three assists (17 total points). She graduated from Syracuse's Martin J. Whitman School of Management in 2018.
