10/18/2019 10:58:00 AM | Men's Lacrosse
The Syracuse men's lacrosse team will hold its annual Orange Alumni Classic on Saturday, here's five things to know:
1. LOGISTICS
- Doors open at 11 a.m., with the Legends Game set for Noon and the intra-squad scrimmage at 2 p.m.
- Parking in the surface lots around the Dome are free.
- Admission is $10 and all proceeds benefit the Syracuse men's lacrosse program.
2. HONORING LEGENDS
- The 1989 NCAA Championship team will be honored at halftime of the Orange's intra-squad scrimmage.
- The squad one the second of three-straight national titles and outscored its opponents by over eight goals per game.
- 11 members of that team (eight players and three members of the coaching staff) are enshrined in either the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame, the Upstate Chapter of the Lacrosse Hall of Fame or both.
3. ALUMNI RETURN
- Nearly 50 alumni will take to the Dome turf on Saturday.
- Two players from the 1969 class (Paul DiMartino and Chris Stringer) reprsent the longest tenured alumni who'll participate, while eight players from the 2019 squad will mark the newest crop.
- The group who'll play features a trio of players returning from an MLL Championship two weeks ago (Matt Abbott, Nick Mariano, Brendan Bomberry) as well as others set to start their NLL seasons.
4. A LOOK AHEAD TO 2020
- The Orange have played in one full scrimmage already this fall, with the Orange and Denver playing to a 15-15 draw at Cortland.
- As the team looks towards the end of fall ball, this is the lone scheduled open opportunity remaining for fans to catch the team in action before they open the season in February.
5. MISSING PORTER
- One notable player who won't take the field on Saturday will be All-ACC goaltender Drake Porter.
- No need for Orange fans to panic, Porter will miss the intra-squad scrimmage due to spending the weekend with the Canadian National Team.
- Porter is set to suit up vs. Team USA in Sparks, Maryland on Friday and Sunday.
