
Hurricanes Beat Visiting Syracuse, 3-1

MIAMI, Fla. – Syracuse (5-9, 2-5 ACC) captured the opening set but host Miami (8-7, 4-3 ACC) regrouped to claim the next three sets to defeat the Orange, 3-1. The Hurricanes won 18-25, 25-12, 32-30 and 25-19.
Miami has won 10-of-12 series meetings with the Orange.
Turning Tides
Syracuse capitalized on Miami attacking and serving mistakes in the first set, while taking advantage of 14 Orange kills.
Miami bounced back quickly after the opening-set defeat to claim the second set. The two teams battled back-and-forth in the third set before the Hurricanes managed to prevail, 32-30. Miami's 21 kills were difference makers.
The Orange stayed close in the fourth set before Miami closed things out.
Sophomore Polina Shemanova, who entered the evening as the ACC leader in kills average, topped the Syracuse offense with 22 kills. Sophomore setter Elena Karakasi contributed 25 assists and freshman setter Lauren Woodford added 15 for the Orange.
Syracuse senior Aliah Bowllan recorded 16 of the team's 39 digs in the loss.
Miami's duo of Janet Kalaniuvalu (17 kills) and Kennedy Prince (16 kills) combined for 33 kills.
