Ramirez Reaches Semifinals at ITA Northeast Regional

2019 ITA Regionals Draws End Monday

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Syracuse left the ITA Northeast Regional celebrating senior Miranda Ramirez who reached the semifinal round of the singles main draw before losing to Princeton's Brianna Shvets. The Orange's quintet combined for 11 match victories over six days of competition in West Point, N.Y., with four victories coming from Ramirez and three coming from junior Sofya Golubovskaya. The duo of Sofya Golubovskaya/Sofya Treshcheva earned a doubles victory as well.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Ramirez and Golubovskaya opened with byes before going on their individual singles runs. Ramirez won her opening matches against Rutgers' Tess Fisher (6-4, 6-3) and Shivani Amineni of Columbia (6-3, 6-3) in straight sets before taking down Raissa Lou (Yale, 7-6 (4), 6-4) and Melissa Sakar (Columbia, 5-7, 6-2, 6-0).

Golubovskaya earned two-set victories in her first and third matches, taking down Fordham's Weronika Pociej (6-2, 6-2) and Buffalo's Pia Schwartz (6-4, 6-4). Golubovskaya was locked in a 6-3, 4-0 battle with Zoe Howard of Princeton in the quarterfinal round before she retired from play.

Treshcheva opened with victories over Emme Levenson of Colgate (7-6 (2), 7-5) and Christie Wen (6-4, 3-6, 6-2) of Columbia before losing, 6-4, 6-2, to Brown's Brittany Lau.

Senior Guzal Yusupova and freshman Kim Hansen each lost in their opening singles match.

In doubles, Golubovskaya/Treshcheva took an 8-4 victory over UConn's Julieanne Bou/Cassie Chung, but the pair lost, 8-4, to Yale's Dunnleavy/Shrivastava. Ramirez/Yusupova then lost, 8-4, to Columbia's Michelle Xu/Julia Haynes.
