DURHAM, N.C. — Syracuse women's soccer concluded its trip to North Carolina with a 4-1 loss to No. 9 Duke Sunday afternoon at Koskinen Stadium. The Orange celebrated senior Sydney Brackett scoring the 10th goal of her career 31 minutes into the game. Syracuse closes out the 2019 season Thursday at SU Soccer Stadium when No. 1 Virginia comes to town.

How it happened
Duke took possession early on but Syracuse's back line of defenders calmly cut down the Blue Devil's attempts to build in the attacking third. Syracuse opened scoring in the 31st minute when Brackett took a touch at the top of the 18-yard box and lasered it into the goal, scoring her second of the year.

The celebration was short lived though as Duke tied things up off a corner kick four minutes later, with Caitlin Cosme finishing the send-in from Karlie Paschall. The Orange entered halftime outshot 6-1, with junior goalkeeper Lysianne Proulx recording three saves.

Duke added their third of the day in the 69th minute when Tess Boade sent in a bender from the top of the box that went far-post past Proulx, making the score 3-1 Blue Devils. The hosts' final goal of the day came in the 76th minute off a quick cross-box pass from Delaney Graham to Marykate McGuire that froze Proulx and allowed McGuire to tap in her ninth of the year.

Syracuse wraps up the season at home Thursday at 7 p.m. against No. 1 Virginia. Thursday is also senior night where the Orange will honor their five seniors in a pregame ceremony. Fans can watch the game live on ACC Network Extra.
