Meet the 2020 Orange Captains
11/4/2019 9:34:00 PM | Men's Lacrosse
Four Syracuse men's lacrosse All-Americans can now add team captain to their already impressive resume.
Brendan Curry, Nick Mellen, and Jamie Trimboli were elected for the first time, while Peter Dearth has been selected again for his second tenure in the role. The captains were chosen earlier this fall through a team vote.
Curry, the only junior captain of the group, started all 14 games, tying linemate Jamie Trimboli for the lead amongst midfielders with 33 points (19-14). The Lutherville, Maryland native was a USILA Third Team All-American last season.
Dearth is one of the nation's best short-stick defensive midfielders. His 15 caused turnovers was third on the team a year ago and most by any player with a short stick. A USILA Third Team All-American last season, Dearth has proven to be a true two-way threat, scoring six goals last season to complement his defensive accolades.
Mellen, a redshirt senior, has been a centerpiece of the Orange defense since his freshman season. The Syracuse, N.Y. native enters his final season with the Orange fifth in career caused turnovers. Another strong season would put the two-time All-American Mellen in elite company, joining Jack Salerno, Kevin Sheehan, Jeff Desko, Pat McCabe, Ric Beardsley, Marshall Abrams, John Lade and Brandon Mullins as the only close defenders in program history to earn All-America accolades in three seasons.
Trimboli, who like Mellen is seeking his third-straight All-America nod was a USILA Honorable Mention All-American last season. Tying Curry for the points lead, Trimboli led all midfielders in goals with 24 last season.
2020 Season tickets are now on sale. You can be part of that action and join the nation's largest lacrosse crowds by purchasing season tickets for just $65 for adults and $35 for youth (12 and under). Student tickets are free with a valid student ID.
Present season ticket holders can renew their tickets through their MyCuse Account. Season tickets for the upcoming season are now on sale at Cuse.com/tickets and at the Syracuse Box Office (888-DOME-TIX or in person at the Ensley Athletic Center).
