
Shemanova Earns Second Consecutive ACC Player of the Week Honors

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – For the second week in a row, Syracuse volleyball sophomore Polina Shemanova achieved Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Player of the Week honors. The Orange captain's stellar performances guided 'Cuse to wins over conference opponents Notre Dame and Louisville over the weekend. The Fighting Irish and the Cardinals entered the matches in the top-30 in the national RPI rankings. Â
Shemanova recorded 22 kills, 18 digs, a service ace and three blocks in a 3-1 victory against Notre Dame Friday night. She followed that with a historic performance Sunday, posting a Syracuse record 36 kills, along with 17 digs and three more blocks in the five set win over the Cardinals. The Orange have won three ACC matches in a row.
Shemanova leads the conference in kills (359), kills per set (5.06), points (406.5) and points per set (5.73). She currently ranks fifth in the nation in kills per set and sixth in points per set. The St. Petersburg, Russia native leads the Syracuse squad with 25 service aces and 199 digs.Â
Shemanova and the Orange travel to Boston College for a midweek match against the Eagles on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 5 p.m. Syracuse then returns home to host Virginia Tech on Sunday at 12 p.m. in the Women's Building for Military Appreciation Day. Both matches will be televised on ACC Network Extra.
