SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Four high school standouts made their commitments to play football at Syracuse University official on Wednesday, Feb. 6. Running back Garrison Johnson, defensive linemen Steve Linton and Jason Muñoz and quarterback David Summers signed with the Orange today, rounding out the program's 2019 signing class.
Â
Today's additions raise Syracuse's number of signees to 21, the majority of whom signed during the NCAA's early signing period in December.
Â
"Obviously, much of this class was signed in December. I think the four individuals today represent a fine-tuning of what we were trying to get done over the entire recruiting period," Syracuse head coach Dino Babers said.
Â
Johnson, who played for current Orange quarterbacks coach Kirk Martin as a junior at Manvel High School, is rated among the top 100 running backs in this year's class by ESPN (No. 84) and the 247Sports.com composite (No. 86). He amassed more than 3,000 yards rushing in his prep career, including 870 yards and 22 touchdowns as a senior.
Â
A Georgia Sports Writers Association Class 2A All-State selection, Linton tallied 67 tackles, 18 tackles for loss and nine sacks as a senior. He led a Dublin defense that allowed 8.5 points per game and carried the Fighting Irish to a 12-2 record.
 Â
Muñoz logged 21 tackles, five tackles for loss and three sacks for perennial Florida powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas in 2018. Rival.com ranks Muñoz as the No. 98 overall player in Florida. Additionally, he's No. 21 on the Sun Sentinel's list of the top 50 college football prospects in talent-rich Broward County.
Â
A consensus top-10 player in Connecticut, Summers led St. Joseph High School to a 25-2 record and two state championships in his two years with the Cadets. He threw for 3,227 yards and 49 touchdowns as a junior. Last fall, Summers passed for 2,631 yards with 39 TDs and was voted the 2018 Connecticut High School Coaches Association Player of the Year.
Overall, Syracuse's incoming class is made up of six defensive linemen, four defensive backs, three linebackers, three offensive linemen, two running backs, one quarterback, one tight end and one wide receiver. Nine states, the District of Columbia and Canada are represented with five players coming from Florida, three from North Carolina, two from Canada, two from Connecticut, two from New Jersey, two from Pennsylvania and one each from Washington, D.C., Georgia, New York, South Carolina and Texas.
Â
Three players – LB Mikel Jones (Miami, Fla.), LB Lee Kpogba and DB Cornelius Nunn (Miami, Fla.) – earned four stars from at least one of the major recruiting services. Kpogba (No. 136) is included on the Rivals Top 250 prospect list.
Â
Of the 21 signees, eight are on campus and enrolled for the spring semester. They are: DB Adrian Cole, DL Cooper Dawson, Courtney Jackson, Jones, RB Jawhar Jordan, Kpogba, OL Anthony Red and Andrew Tuazama.
Â
Syracuse, which went 10-3 in 2018 and finished the year ranked No. 15 in the country, begins spring practice March 3.
Â
The Orange open the 2019 campaign on Aug. 31 at Liberty and host reigning national champion Clemson in their home opener on Sept. 14.
Â
Season tickets for Syracuse's six-game home slate start at $100 for Syracuse University Young Alumni (Class of 2015 to Class of 2019 graduates) and $125 for the general public. They are on sale now online (Cuse.com/tickets), by phone (888-DOME-TIX) and at the Carrier Dome Box Office (Gate B).
