THE GAME
- The regular season finale from the last-four seasons has been moved to the season opener for 2019.
- The game will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra with Noah Eagle and Ryan Powell calling the action. Brian Higgins and Kyle Fetterly will call the action on TK99/105, Cuse.com and the TuneIn App, while WAER will also bring the action.
THE COLGATE SERIES
- This will be the 61st all-time meeting between the two Upstate New York programs.
- Syracuse leads the all-time series 48-11-1, having won six-straight and 23 of the last-26.
- The two teams had previously played as the final regular season contest each year in the week between the ACC and NCAA Tournaments. However, due to a schedule change in the ACC Tournament, the teams will now open the season against each other. For Colgate, their season ended in the Dome last year, while this is the second-straight regular season matchup with the Raiders for the Orange after ending the 2018 regular season with them.
- This is the first season opener against the Raiders since Syracuse defeated them 12-5 in the 2001 season opener.
- In last season's matchup, Nate Solomon (2-2), Jamie Trimboli (3-0) and Jacob Buttermore (3-0), all had multi-point days.
AGAINST THE PATRIOT LEAGUE
- Against the seven current members of the Patriot League lacrosse conference, Syracuse owns a 111-77-2 record all-time.
- Syracuse will face three Patriot League opponents in 2019, including Colgate, Army, and Navy.
- In addition to the 48-11-1 record against Colgate, Syracuse is 25-40 against Army, 8-0 against Bucknell, 3-2 against Lehigh, 19-5 against Loyola, 8-19-1 against Navy, and has never faced Boston University, Lafayette, or Holy Cross.
ORANGE IN OPENERS
- SU owns an all-time record of 80-19 (.808) in season-opening games.
- The Orange are 39-10 in campaign starters since 1970 and has won 19-of-20 under head coach John Desko.
- Syracuse defeated Binghamton 21-4 in last season's opener.
- Since the Orange began playing in the Carrier Dome, Syracuse is 23-1 (.958) in season openers played in the Dome. The team's only loss was a 16-15 double overtime decision against Albany in the 2013 season opener.
100TH SEASON OF SYRACUSE LACROSSE
- While the Syracuse men's lacrosse team celebrated their centennial season in 2016 - the 100th anniversary of the 1916 squad that first brought lacrosse to Syracuse, the 2019 season will be the 100th season of the sport being played at SU.
- Due to no games being played in 1917 and the program being suspended from 1943-45 due to WWII, this will be season 100.
- Syracuse is one of two programs to win 900+ games in program history, with Johns Hopkins being the other.
Â
CONFERENCE KINGS
- Heading into 2019, Syracuse owns a nine-game winning streak in league play in the nation's most difficult conference.
- Following its win over North Carolina in the 2018 ACC regular season finale, Syracuse extended its winning streak in regular season conference games to nine. Including the ACC Tournament, Syracuse is 11-2 in its last-13 games against ACC competition.
- 'Cuse is 4-0 in league play this season and swept the conference last year. The last time the Orange lost was against Notre Dame in the 2016 season. The streak is the second-longest nationally, trailing only Denver's 26-game conference winning streak dating back to 2013.
- Since joining the ACC in 2014, Syracuse is 14-7 in regular season conference play.
- For that dominance, Head Coach John Desko has become the first coach in the history of the league to win ACC Men's Lacrosse Coach of the Year in four-straight seasons. No other coach has done so even three times.
A WIN AGAINST COLGATE WOULD...
- Be the program's 904th victory, second all-time behind Johns Hopkins.
- Improve SU's record to 58-21 since the start of the 2014 season
- Give John Desko his 245th career coaching win, fifth among active Division I coaches and 23rd all-time at the NCAA Division I level.
- Make Syracuse 81-19 (.810) in season openers.
- Be Syracuse's 24th win in 25 season openers played in the Carrier Dome.
- Improve the Orange to 49-11-1 against Colgate all-time.
MOST IN THE MODERN ERA
- Syracuse lost just two starters due to graduation after the 2018 season, and only four players that saw significant field time.
- The eight returning starters is the most in the 21-year tenure of head coach John Desko.
- Syracuse brings back its entire starting defense and first-line midfield from a year ago, three of their top-four attackmen, primary faceoff man, top-two LSMs, nearly its entire defensive midfield rotation and primary faceoff man.
