SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Jesse Edwards has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to play basketball for Syracuse next season, according to the University.
Edwards, a 6-11, 215 center, is a member of the IMG Academy (Fla.) Post-Grad team led by Coach John Rhodes. A native of Amsterdam, Netherlands, Edwards arrived in the U.S. in December 2018, and enrolled at IMG Academy at that time. He averaged 10.0 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game, according to his coach.
He has an older brother, Kai Edwards, who is finishing his junior year at Northern Colorado. Kai Edwards played in 29-of-38 contests for the Bears this past season. Jesse and Kai are the sons of David and Simone Edwards.
Syracuse previously announced that John Bol Ajak (The Westtown School, Pa.), Joseph Girard III (Glens Falls Senior High School, N.Y.), Brycen Goodine (St. Andrews School, R.I.), and Quincy Guerrier (Thetford Academy, Quebec) had signed National Letters of Intent.
The National Letter-of-Intent program was started in 1964. Administered by the Collegiate Commissioners Association (CCA), the program was designed with prospective student-athletes in mind. A signed letter-of-intent indicates a prospective student-athlete agrees to attend the designated college or university for one academic year. Institutions agree to provide athletics financial aid for one academic year to the student-athlete, provided the student-athlete is admitted to the institution and is eligible for financial aid under NCAA rules.
