With a league-best six selections, the No. 7 Syracuse men's lacrosse team represents a third of the All-ACC selections this season.
Sophomore midfielder Brendan Curry, junior short-stick defensive midfielder Peter Dearth, redshirt-sophomore long-stick midfielder Brett Kennedy, redshirt-junior defenseman Nick Mellen, junior goalie Drake Porter and senior attackman Nate Solomon were selected by the league's head coaches to the 18-man All-ACC team. The Orange's balanced attack was showcased in the voting, with the six players each playing a different position.
Curry has emerged as one of the nation's top midfielders in his breakout sophomore campaign. Highlighted by the overtime game-winning goal against Duke, Curry has already nearly doubled his scoring output from a year ago with 30 points. He has scored 16 goals and chipped in 12 assists to lead SU midfielders.
Dearth has led the Orange's defensive midfield unit with 12 caused turnovers and 28 ground balls. Elected as a team captain by his teammates, the Ridgefield, Connecticut native has proven to be a scoring threat in transition as well, leading all defensive players with five goals and an assist.
Kennedy is the Orange's top longstick and has been a key component on the wing for faceoffs. Ranking second to Tyson Bomberry (48) among field players in ground balls with 39, Kennedy has caused 12 turnovers on the year, also scoring two goals and contributing two assists. This is his second selection to the All-ACC team.
A Syracuse native, Mellen is also a two-time All-ACC selection. He's been one of the nation's top cover defensemen since arriving on campus, but is statistically putting up his best numbers this season. Mellen's matchup hasn't scored a single goal since the calendar flipped to April, and he's holding his opposition to 0.91 goals per game on the season. In total, those players average 1.8 goals per game this season. He's also allowing just 2.3 points per game, with those players averaging 3.5 on the year. He's done so by guarding three of the top-five scorers nationally.
Porter has been a star in his first season as the starter. With a goals against average of 9.88 and a save percentage of 57.6-percent, Porter ranks in the top-20 nationally in both statistics and leads the ACC in both. He ranks seventh nationally in save percentage and 18th in goals against.
Solomon is second on the Orange in goals (23) and points (36), trailing Bradley Voigt in both categories. The senior also leads all attackmen with six caused turnovers and has collected 24 ground balls. He enters Thursday's ACC Tournament opener with the 16th-longest point streak nationally at 29 games, which ranks second in the ACC behind Virginia's Michael Kraus.
