
Syracuse Hosts Cornell Wednesday

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse University softball team is set to host Cornell University for a mid-week match up on Wednesday, May 1. The first pitch is set for a 4 p.m. and will be broadcasted on ACC Network Extra.
Syracuse (20-28, 8-13 ACC) is coming off their final road series of the 2019 season, where they dropped three games to Georgia Tech. The first two games were each decided by one run as Georgia Tech scored the advantage in the bottom of the seventh inning.
With her seven strikeouts Friday against Georgia Tech, junior Alexa Romero moved into second all-time at Syracuse with 581 career strikeouts. She trails only Jenna Caira (2009-12), who tallied 1,051 in her career at Syracuse. Additionally, Romero is second among Division 1 juniors in career strikeouts. Her 109 strikeouts against conference opponents, leads the ACC.
Against Georgia Tech, Alex Acevedo led the Orange with five hits including one run scored. Alicia Hansen notched three hits, two of which came on home runs for a total of four RBIs and a 1.429 slugging percentage.
Cornell (10-32, 5-13 Ivy) is coming off two consecutive wins against Princeton, including a walk-off home run in the final game of the series. Cornell freshmen Ashley Delany earned Co-Rookie of the Week honors in the Ivy League following a .533 performance at the plate and going 1-0 in the circle. Delany went 8-for-15 with a double and her first career home run.
'Cuse has dominated the series against Cornell with a 17-9 series advantage dating back to 2000.
Following the Cornell game, Syracuse will host reigning national champion #5/6 Florida State for their final ACC series of the season. The Orange will take on Florida State Friday, May 3 at 4 p.m. All three games of the series will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
